Southern California Braces for Heavy Rain, Flash Floods, and Mudslide Risks

LA Fire Department officials have issued evacuation warnings for areas in Los Angeles County that were recently devastated by wildfires, as an atmospheric-river-fueled storm is set to bring heavy rainfall and an increased risk of mudslides this week. More than 20 million people across Southern California remain under a flash flood watch, with intense rainfall on Thursday.

Forecasts indicate that the storm could produce 1 to 2 inches of rain along the coast, while the valleys could see up to 4 inches. The rainfall rate may be high enough to trigger flooding and landslides in burn scar areas. Meanwhile, strong winds sweeping across the central US are expected to escalate throughout the day, which could result in fallen trees and downed power lines, potentially disrupting travel and causing power outages.
