Winter Storm Landon : A 2000-Mile Long Mess of Snow, Ice in Eastern US
Winter storm Landon is spreading a triple whammy of heavy snow, sleet and ice across 2000 miles in the eastern US, leaving more than 100 million people in 25 states under winter weather alerts. As of Thursday morning, more than 100,000 residents are facing power outages – out of which 48,000 were in Texas, 1600 in Oklahoma and 12,000 in Arkansas, among others.
On Tuesday, heavy snow of more than 20 inches piled up in the Colorado Springs area. Parts of Indiana and Illinois were inundated with more than a foot of snow, as per the NWS. Heavy ice is expected from Texas through Ohio River Valley, especially from Arkansas to Kentucky, that could lead to scattered power outages and dangerous travel conditions in the region.
As per the NWS, winter storm Landon will track through portions of central US before moving in the interior Northeast. Going ahead, areas such as Dallas, St. Louis and Tennessee can see between 5 to 8 inches of snow. After already being slammed by 11 inches of snow, South Bend can witness additional 2 to 6 inches. Areas such as Buffalo, New York can see between 7 to 13 inches of snow, which is likely to peak Thursday afternoon through evening.
As per the forecast, the storm will wind down by Friday.

While the US Northeast still recovers from the historic nor’easter bomb cyclone, another winter storm, namely, Landon is ready to bring heavy snow, ice and freezing rain from Rockies to Plains, Midwest and even portions of Northeast, as per the news by The Weather Channel.
Through this week, weather conditions could lead to scattered power outages, tree damages and hazardous travel conditions, especially from portions of eastern Oklahoma into the Ozarks and parts of mid-Mississippi and Ohio Valley. The NWS has issued winter storm watches and advisories from parts of Colorado and New Mexico to New York and New England.
From Tuesday night into Wednesday, widespread snow and sleet is likely from Rockies to the Plains, that could extend as far as Oklahoma and parts of northern Texas and Dallas. Along the path of Landon, areas such as Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit can witness snowfall up to 6 inches or more. Few areas could even see up to a foot of snowfall.
On Thursday, winter storm Landon will bring light snow accumulations as it tracks toward the Central and West Texas. The storm could extend into Ohio Valley and Great Lakes, as rain soaks much of the Northeast.
