Wildfires Ravage Grand Canyon’s North Rim, Forcing Closures and Evacuations

Wildfires raging near Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park have destroyed numerous structures, including the iconic Grand Canyon Lodge and a key water treatment plant. The White Sage Fire, ignited by lightning on July 9, has charred approximately 49,285 acres around Jacob Lake. With containment still at 0%, the blaze has prompted the closure of the park’s North Rim and forced evacuations of nearby residents. 

Adding to the crisis, the Dragon Bravo Fire burning in the same region has exhibited extreme and volatile behaviour, growing to roughly 5,716 acres overnight. Like the White Sage Fire, it also remains completely uncontained. Officials estimate that between 50 and 80 structures have destroyed, including National Park Service offices and visitor facilities.
