Australian Floods: Country Reels from “one-in-1000 years” Catastrophic Flooding
According to CNN, the east coast of Australia has been battered by torrential rain for more than a week. More than 700mm of rain was recorded in just 30 hours during the floods, causing massive damage and forcing hundreds to evacuate.
As per the reports, a wild weather system dumped more than a year’s worth of rainfall over a week in southern Queensland and northern New South Wales, that brought widespread damage, displacing many people, and sweeping away property, livestock and roads. Since the floods began, the number of fatalities have risen to 17.
Going forward, the Bureau of Meterology (BOM) predicts that a new weather system is likely to bring another round of heavy rains, raising the risk of flooding.
