Tornadoes Strike the Central US, While Rain and Snow Blast the North and West: Footprints Available
Overnight, severe storms have triggered tornado sightings in several areas of the central US. On Monday, a fresh barrage of snow, rain, and strong winds are predicted throughout vast portions of the country, with new storms sweeping from Washington State to southern California and into the Great Lakes region.
In Oklahoma. at least seven tornadoes have been confirmed on Monday. Nationwide, approximately 284,000 homes and businesses were without electricity, with almost half of them in Michigan and more than 50,000 in Oklahoma.
More than 100 additional storm reports were made in some Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas regions. As the severe weather continued, hurricane-force winds, hail, and violent thunderstorms tore through these states. Memphis, Texas, experienced a gust of 114 mph, which is equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane.
The winter storm is forecast to move into the Northeast by Monday afternoon: where interior regions may have a snowfall of 6 to 12 inches. Rain and high-elevation snow will move from the Pacific Northwest into California and the Rockies through Monday.
