Tornadoes Reported in Texas and Louisiana: Impact Footprints Available
On Thursday, a string of thunderstorms swept through North Texas. Hailstones were the size of golf balls and gusts of up to 70 mph destroyed homes and felled power lines. Six tornadoes were reported in Texas and one in Louisiana, destroying dozens of homes. There are more than 18 hail reports across Texas and Oklahoma.
In Texas, storms led to more than 320,000 power disruptions. The Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area experienced significant wind gusts in the 60 to 80 mph range. In Louisiana, a tornado touched down near the state university and caused severe damage in Shreveport.
On Friday, the storms continue to sweep toward the Northeast. More tornadoes and severe winds are anticipated in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. The weather may also impact the Southeast. A tornado watch has been issued for the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
