Tornado Causes Damage Throughout Ohio

On Wednesday evening, a tornado heavily damaged a retail distribution center for discount chain Meijer and crossed over Interstate 75 in Southwest Ohio. The twister touched down near West Milton, about 16 miles northwest of Dayton and traveled eastward to near Tipp City. 

As per the reports, about 36,000 homes and businesses were without electricity across southern Ohio. There were no reported injuries according to the town’s police chief. Downed power lines and trees, were reported further to the east near Springfield. 

The tornado was part of a decaying thunderstorm cluster, or mesoscale convective system, moving through the Ohio Valley. Summertime heat and systems like this often create strong winds and hail, but can occasionally produce a few tornadoes as they track eastward across the country during the warmer months of the year.
