The Thompson Fire in Northern California has prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents in Butte County. The wildfire, which ignited on Tuesday morning near Oroville, has rapidly spread, burning over 3,000 acres by Wednesday night. The intense heat wave gripping the region has exacerbated the situation, making firefighting efforts more challenging. Officials had said 28,000 people were ordered to evacuate. The flames have destroyed at least four buildings and threatened 12,000 other structures and are affecting numerous power lines.

Cal Fire reported that the blaze is only 7% contained, with numerous structures threatened and several already destroyed. Over 1,500 personnel are battling the fire using both ground and aerial resources. The extreme conditions have led to eight confirmed injuries among civilians and firefighters.

Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, and federal funds have been approved to assist firefighting efforts. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and follow evacuation orders as the situation remains critical.
