Storm Arwen Slams UK with Ferocious Winds

Storm Arwen brought destructive winds and snow into the UK, leaving thousands of homes without power during the weekend. On Friday night, more than 55, 000 residents in Northumberland, County Durham and Tyne and Wear, faced power outage. The storm wreaked havoc with gusts of almost 100 mph and heavy snow. There are reports of damage to property and disruption in transport. 

According to the Met Office, the storm conditions were “horrendous” leading to rare red weather warnings on Friday. Amber and yellow warnings are still in place and residents in many areas are advised to travel only if “absolutely necessary”.

As per the Met Office, the storm will continue bringing strong winds across many parts of the country. Snow is falling and settling on roads across southern England and the Midlands. It is expected to move away to the South where it will bring a wintry mix of rain and snow.
