Severe Weather Sweeping Southeast US: More Than 30 Tornadoes Leave Trails of Destruction
On Thursday, several states were under tornado watch because of the severe weather sweeping Southeast US. The powerful storm system has damaged properties and left tens of thousands without electricity, especially in parts of Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama.
At least 34 tornado reports were recorded there as of Thursday night. Trails of destruction have left many streets littered with broken tree branches, as well as damaged powerlines.
Selma, Alabama has been the most severely impacted. A tornado in Selma, Alabama, carved a 32 miles course across two rural villages, damaging at least 40 houses. An EF1 Tornado with a wind speed of 110 mph also touched down in Henry County, Alabama.
An after-dark tornado also struck Dallas County leaving a high financial and emotional toll in its wake. More than 130 reports of damaging wind were recorded from Mississippi to Virginia.
