Severe Storms Strike Oklahoma as Tornadoes Leave a Trail of Devastation: Assess the Impact

 In Event News

On Wednesday evening, at least 14 tornadoes hit Oklahoma, Kansas, and Iowa. The tornado tore apart homes, formed a “debris ball,” and left a trail of destruction in its wake. In total, the four confirmed tornadoes in Oklahoma also caused power outages for at least 20,000 homes and businesses.

The town of Cole, Oklahoma, was severely damaged by the ferocious storm. Overnight, a McClain County deputy sheriff claimed that a “significant number” of homes had likely been damaged and that the storm had left a swath of destruction several miles wide and around 10 miles long. Another large and dangerous tornado was confirmed in Shawnee, a city of around 30,000 people in Pottawatomie County. In addition, Lowa had four tornado reports, and Kansas reported three.

On Thursday the threat of severe storms is expected to shift towards the east, affecting Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas. These storms have the potential to cause powerful winds and large hail.
