Powerful Storms Sweep Across the Northeastern and Southern US, Causing Extensive Damage
A powerful storm system swept through the Northeast late Monday, unleashing heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for hail and tornadoes. The severe weather resulted in at least seven fatalities.
On March 30 and 31, 2025, multiple tornadoes struck various regions, including an EF-2 tornado in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, and an EF-1 tornado confirmed in Fairdale, Kentucky. Several other states also reported tornado activity, along with damaging winds and hail, leading to widespread damage — including a collapsed building in Elkhart, Indiana.
Elsewhere across the South, the storms delivered intense wind gusts to Louisiana and pelted northern Alabama with hail. Flash flood warnings were issued for New Orleans and surrounding areas early Monday.
