Powerful Earthquake of Magnitude 7.6 Rocks Mexican Coastline
On Monday, a strong 7.6-magnitude earthquake shook Mexico’s Southwest coast with its epicenter in Michoacan state. The earthquake struck 23 miles Southeast of the city of Aquila with a depth of 9 miles.
Around 62 miles from the epicenter nearby Colima, the quake caused “moderate” damage, whereas, in Mexico City, about 310 miles distant, “mild to moderate” trembles were experienced.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) initially listed the earthquake’s magnitude as 7.6. In a news briefing on Monday, Mexico’s national seismological office later revised the magnitude to 7.7.
