Major Winter Storm Forecasted to Bring Extensive Snow Coverage Across the US
A powerful winter storm is sweeping across the US on November 27, 2025, threatening heavy snow, blizzard conditions, and frigid Arctic air from the Rockies to the Midwest and East Coast. The system entered the northern Rockies and Plains today, intensifying toward the Midwest with 5-12 inches of snow forecast for Chicago, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Winds up to 50 mph could reduce visibility below a quarter mile, creating life-threatening travel hazards during the busy holiday weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop Friday afternoon and persist into the night across eastern Kansas, western Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and western Louisiana. Some storms may bring heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of localized flooding.
Winter storm warnings cover multiple states, with up to 24 inches possible in some areas. Overnight lows may drop to single digits in the north-central US, plunging 15-30 degrees below average by Sunday.
