Hurricane Fiona Destroy Houses in the Caribbean Islands, Heads to Canada
The most powerful storm of the season, Hurricane Fiona, which passed through Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Turks, and Caicos is now heading towards Bermuda before making landfall in Canada this weekend.
Earlier this week Fiona affected 8,708 households and destroyed 2,262 homes, leaving more than a million individuals without electricity.
As of Friday, Fiona was a powerful Category 3 hurricane about 125 miles north of Bermuda. It is expected to hit Nova Scotia with winds of around 100 mph by Saturday afternoon after it has passed Bermuda.
Residents in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia are being warned to brace themselves for extreme winds and torrential rain.

Hurricane Fiona makes Landfall, causing Flash Floods in Puerto Rico
On Sunday, September 18 Hurricane Fiona made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 85 mph over the extreme southwest coast of Puerto Rico, near Punta Tocon. The hurricane has caused rivers to overflow and a power outage affecting nearly 1.5 million individuals.
A flash flood emergency was announced on Sunday night for Sector San Felipe and Mosquito in Salinas County, where 10 to 15 inches of rain has already fallen. As of Monday, 59 aqueducts in the Dominican Republic were not functioning, leaving more than 1 million people without access to flowing water, while 3.1 million individuals were left without electricity.
Fiona developed into a Category 3 hurricane early on Tuesday, with sustained winds of more than 111 mph. It is currently threatening heavy rains in the Turks and Caicos.

Tropical Depression in Atlantic Expected to become Tropical Storm Fiona
According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Depression Seven developed in the Atlantic on Wednesday morning and might develop into Tropical Storm Fiona late Wednesday or on Thursday.
The system features winds of 35 mph with greater gusts and is positioned around 800 miles east of the Leeward Islands.
As it gradually gains power, the depression is expected to intensify into a tropical storm (with winds of 39 mph or greater) on Wednesday night or Thursday. For it to become a named storm, it must intensify.
It is anticipated to make landfall as a weak tropical storm on Friday, bringing heavy rain and potential wind effects. It may pass over or close to several of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend. The system is expected to get close to Hispaniola by early next week, where it will interact with the mountain area of the island and become weaker.
