Hawaii Experiences Catastrophic Flooding till Tuesday
According to the National Weather Service, a storm system in Hawaii will bring widespread heavy rainfall, capable of producing catastrophic flooding, and strong winds lasting till Tuesday.
There is a possibility of rainfall up to 10 to 15 inches , with isolated areas around 20 to 25 inches, as per the NWS. Flash flood warnings are in place for the entire islands of Maui and Molokai, along with the eastern half of the Big Island. Parts of Maui County are already experiencing flash flooding and power outages, causing unsafe conditions for the residents.
There is a possibility of landslides in some cases. As per the NWS, multiple landslides are possible in areas with steep terrain. Urban areas, especially on Oahu, Hawaii, may face severe flooding. Low spots in roads might become dangerous and impassable due to severe runoff. Highways, roads, may be closed, potentially cutting off communities.
Blizzard warnings are in place since the weekend for mountain summits on the Big Island and in parts of Hawaii, following the flooding and landslide threat.
