Flash Flood Threat Develops in Parts of the Central and Eastern US
The Northern Plains and Upper Midwest are facing a renewed flash flood threat as above-average heat and deep moisture move across the region. Several rounds of storms could bring a few inches of rain within 36 hours, with some storms capable of dropping more than an inch in just a few hours.
Severe storms are also affecting parts of the Mid-Atlantic, including Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania, and northern North Carolina. Damaging winds and hail could lead to roof, siding, vehicle, and tree-related property damage in affected areas.
Flash flooding could become more dangerous in hilly areas of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, western Virginia, and western North Carolina, where heavy rainfall can quickly run off into low-lying areas and small streams.
A similar severe weather setup is expected to continue across the Central US, with storms possible from the High Plains into parts of the Midwest. Damaging wind gusts and hail remain the main threats, though a few tornadoes are also possible.
