Earthquake of Magnitude 6.6 Strikes Southwest China
A 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit southwest China. The earthquake struck the province of Sichuan on Monday at 13:00 local time (05:00 GMT), at a depth of 10km (6 miles).
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the town of Luding, which is located in a remote mountain region 226 kilometers southwest of Chengdu.
Buildings in Chengdu and the nearby megacity of Chongqing were shaken by tremors, which also interrupted communication lines and obstructed highways.
