Explosive Eagle Bluff Fire Crosses Canadian Border, Grows in Washington: Assess the Impact
A rapidly spreading wildfire in northern Washington state, known as the Eagle Bluff Fire, underwent a significant expansion, crossing the Canadian border and triggering a chain of evacuations. Since it started in Okanogan County on Saturday, the blaze has consumed thousands of acres on both sides of the border, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate their homes.
In Canada, the town of Osoyoos, British Columbia, faced evacuation orders for over 700 properties on Saturday, but that number was reduced to 192 by Monday due to firefighting efforts. An additional 2,635 properties in the vicinity were put on an evacuation alert.
In the US, the Eagle Pass Fire has resulted in the burning of at least three structures in Okanogan County, Washington, though no active evacuation orders have been issued. The fire rapidly expanded due to dry, warm, and windy weather conditions, engulfing more than 10,000 acres on the US side and over 3,500 acres in Canada. As of now, the fire remains uncontained in both countries. This blaze is one of many large fires that erupted across several Western US states in July, with approximately 64 large fires currently burning across nine states.
