Canada Truckers Protest: Protestors Blocking US-Canada Borders Over COVID-19 Mandates
According to the news by CNN, police crackdown to remove protesters against Covid-19 mandates could soon restore normalcy to American and Canadian businesses hit hard by blockade at the borders. Nearly weeklong standoff at the bridge, that links Windsor, Ontario and Detroit has paralyzed traffic between US and Canada – crippling key trade routes for both nations.
The truckers protest stemmed from truckers opposing Canada’s new mandate requiring them to either be fully vaccinated when crossing the US-Canadian border or face a two-week long quarantine. Their ‘freedom convoy’ has since drawn supporters resisting other Covid-19 prevention measures. That includes mask mandates, lockdowns, and restrictions on community gatherings.
On Sunday, the police reportedly arrested more than 30 protesters near the Ambassador Bridge for ‘criminal mischief’. Additionally, many vehicles were also seized.
