Major Tornado Outbreak Devastates Parts of the US Plains and Midwest
A major severe weather outbreak has been impacting large parts of the Plains and Midwest since March 6, bringing destructive tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds across multiple states. At least six people have been killed as powerful storms swept through several states, including Michigan and Oklahoma, where tornadoes caused widespread destruction.
The storm system has threatened more than 63 million people across a region stretching roughly 1,500 miles from Texas to Michigan. Strong winds and tornadoes have damaged buildings, uprooted trees, and scattered debris across towns throughout the affected corridor. In southern Michigan, a tornado struck communities near Union City and surrounding areas. The storm caused significant damage to homes, barns, and local infrastructure.
The severe weather system created a broad corridor of storms extending from Texas and Oklahoma through Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois before reaching Michigan. Meteorologists warned that unstable atmospheric conditions could continue to support additional severe storms through early Saturday. Although some tornado watches expired Friday evening, new watches were issued farther east as storms moved across the Midwest overnight.
