Southern California Braces for Major Flooding as Intense Pacific Storm Arrives

A powerful Pacific storm is sweeping into Southern California, prompting alerts for dangerous flooding, mudslides, and debris flows. The same system pushed through Northern and Central California on Thursday, delivering strong winds and widespread rainfall. Over the last 24 hours, coastal regions recorded 1 to 2 inches of rain, while the elevated terrain along the coastal mountain ranges saw isolated totals between 3 and 5 inches.

Southern California has already felt the storm’s initial impacts, with heavy rain causing flooding. The next surge of moisture could bring rainfall, raising the risk of flash flooding, debris flows, and major travel disruptions. The most intense phase is expected from Friday night through Saturday and into Saturday night, when torrential rain and locally strong thunderstorms could sweep across much of the region. As a result, a flash flood threat level 3 out of 4 now exists for both Friday and Saturday across California.
