Southern Philippines Shaken by 7.4-Magnitude Earthquake

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern coast of the Philippines’ Mindanao region on Friday, leaving at least two people dead and causing significant structural damage in several coastal towns near the epicenter. The quake occurred offshore near Manay in Davao Oriental province, prompting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology to issue a tsunami warning for coastal areas within 300 kilometers (about 186 miles).

However, the alert for both the Philippines and neighboring Indonesia was later lifted after the threat subsided. Early reports of destruction, including damaged homes, buildings, and bridges, came from Manay.
