Heavy Rain Batters Florida, Gulf Coast on Flood Watch

A soaking weather system is sweeping across Florida on Tuesday, not yet classified as a tropical storm but with the potential to strengthen into a tropical depression later this week as it moves into the northeastern and northern Gulf of Mexico, according to the NHC.

Forecasters warned of possible flash flooding in parts of Florida through the middle of the week. A Level 2 out of 4 risk for flooding rainfall is forecast for Thursday in southeastern Louisiana, including New Orleans, as well as along parts of coastal Alabama and Mississippi. By Friday, the flood threat could escalate to Level 3 in portions of Louisiana, including Baton Rouge, with fears that persistent heavy rain could intensify conditions.
