West Virginia Reels from Deadly Flooding After Torrential Rainfall
Severe flooding swept through parts of West Virginia over the weekend, prompting multiple Flash Flood Warnings across the state. According to officials, a torrential downpour dropped 2.5 to 4 inches of rain in areas of Wheeling and Ohio County in 30 minutes on Saturday night.
The intense rainfall quickly overwhelmed drainage systems and local waterways, inundating vehicles and low-lying areas in small towns such as Triadelphia and Valley Grove, located east of the Ohio River. In Fairmont, a town in Marion County, an apartment building partially collapsed Sunday afternoon due to the relentless rain and floodwaters .
A flood watch remains active in the region, with additional rounds of heavy rainfall forecast for Tuesday.
