Wildfire Smoke from Canada Triggers Air Quality Alerts Across Northern US
Regions such as northern Minnesota, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and most of Wisconsin were under active air quality alerts last week. States including Illinois and Maine also experienced unhealthy air levels.
According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, over 200 wildfires are currently active across Canada, with nearly half categorized as out of control. Smoke from these fires has rapidly expanded, due to winds towards the south, and is now affecting air quality across parts of the northern US.
In Northeast Ohio, NOACA has issued an air quality advisory for Tuesday in the Greater Cleveland and Akron areas due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter linked to the wildfire smoke.
