Tropical Cyclone Errol Rapidly Strengthens as It Approaches Western Australia

Tropical Cyclone Errol, which formed on Tuesday night, is intensifying rapidly towards the north of Western Australia. It could turn towards the Kimberley coast later this week. The system is projected to approach the Dampier Peninsula north of Broome in the coming days. There is also a strong possibility that the system will weaken before making landfall in WA this weekend.

With the system moving steadily toward the mainland, authorities are warning of potential evacuations, power outages, and structural damage. The phenomenon went from a simple accumulation of clouds to a category 4 tropical cyclone.  The cyclone’s speed and strength could generate severe storms, torrential rains, and widespread flooding.
