Multi-Day Severe Weather Batters Central US, Triggering Deadly Tornadoes and Flash Floods
Central US endures day three of a four-day severe weather assault, with tornadoes and flooding still ahead. At least seven fatalities have been reported across three states – five in Tennessee, one in Indiana, and one in Missouri – along with 13 injuries. The storm system has brought powerful wind gusts, large hail, tornadoes, and flash flooding, leaving roads damaged and communities struggling.
The rare weather event began on Wednesday, sparking a widespread tornado outbreak from Arkansas to Indiana. In the past 24 hours alone, more than 30 tornadoes have been reported across states from Arkansas to Ohio. According to the National Weather Service, tornadoes that struck Bay and Lake City in Arkansas and Selmer in Tennessee, have been rated at least EF3 in strength.
The threat continues with a moderate risk (level 3 of 4) for excessive rainfall on Friday, stretching from areas east of Dallas through Fayetteville, Arkansas, up to Springfield and St. Louis, Missouri. On Saturday, the severe weather risk rises to level 3 of 5 across Arkansas, Louisiana, western Mississippi, and eastern Texas, where strong tornadoes remain a serious concern.

Apr 03 | Tornadoes Rip Through Central US, Devastating Parts of Arkansas, Indiana, and Tennessee
Severe storms swept through parts of the central United States on Wednesday, causing damage and claiming at least two lives in Tennessee. Numerous injuries were also reported, with homes damaged or destroyed across Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana.
In Lake City, Arkansas, a powerful tornado struck with such force that it hurled debris nearly 30,000 feet into the atmosphere. Another tornado tore through Carmel, Indiana late Wednesday, knocking down a large downtown radio tower and tearing off the front of a building.
About 33 million people remain under threat from severe weather stretching from central Texas to southern Pennsylvania. Cities at risk include Dallas, Little Rock, Memphis, and Nashville. Forecasters warn that strong tornadoes and large hail are the primary hazards for Thursday. Torrential rainfall is possible through the weekend that would trigger historic flash flooding across Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
