Severe Thunderstorm Brings Tornadoes, Damaging Winds, and Flash Flooding Risk Across the Southeast
A powerful storm delivering heavy snow and ice in the East has also unleashed severe weather threats, including tornadoes, damaging winds, and flash flooding, in the South across parts of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. The storm system continues to endanger the region, with authorities warning of strong tornadoes and widespread flooding risks across the Southeast. The National Weather Service (NWS) has escalated the threat level to 3 out of 5.
At least one tornado was confirmed in Columbia, Mississippi, where cameras captured the funnel making contact with the ground. A Tornado Watch remained in effect for southern Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana late into Wednesday evening, while Flash Flood Watches extended from the Gulf Coast to the Appalachians as heavy rainfall threatened to overwhelm low-lying areas.
