Severe Thunderstorms Bring Flash Flooding, Hail, and Destructive Winds to NSW and Eastern Victoria

Thunderstorms swept across New South Wales and eastern Victoria on Monday, bringing flash flooding, destructive winds, and hail, as the Bureau of Meteorology warned that severe conditions would persist. A major storm rolled through Sydney’s CBD around midday, casting dark skies and unleashing heavy rainfall, with torrential downpours delivering 52mm of rain in just 90 minutes.

Just after 4 pm on Monday, the bureau issued a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall, large hailstones and damaging winds over the NSW northern interior, including parts of the north-west and lower western districts. Wet conditions were expected to linger on Tuesday in eastern NSW, with drier conditions expected on Thursday and Friday.

North Queensland is also anticipating for additional rainfall. The region is already affected by flooding, but conditions are forecast to ease by the middle of the week.
