Unprecedented Rainfall Wreaks Havoc in Spain & Cause Flooding in Madrid: Actionable Insights on EigenPrism

 In Event News

Over the weekend, the Madrid region in Spain experienced a record amount of rainfall, resulting in flooding, disruptions to a Spanish league soccer game, and sadly, the reported loss of at least two lives.  Weather forecasts indicated the potential for up to 120 liters per square meter of precipitation.

On Sunday and early Monday, in the provinces of Madrid, Castile-La Mancha, Catalonia, and Valencia, the torrential deluge turned roadways into rivers of mud that carried away cars. In numerous locations, hail also fell.

Spain’s national weather agency, AEMET, issued a maximum red alert on Sunday, cautioning of extreme danger in the Madrid region, Toledo province, and the city of Cadiz. On Monday, the agency downgraded the alert level to yellow, though the risk of ongoing rainfall persisted.
