Typhoon Haikui is Taiwan’s First Major Storm in 4 Years, Causes Significant Damage and Injuries: Get Actionable Insights
On September 2, 2023, Typhoon Haikui made landfall in Taiwan, leaving behind serious damage and casualties. It is the first significant storm to hit Taiwan directly in the past four years. The storm left tens of thousands of homes without power and forced thousands of people to evacuate, at least 44 people were injured. Flights, rail and ferry services, classes, and outdoor events were suspended, and residents were urged to stay home. The typhoon uprooted trees and caused landslides, leading to road closures and traffic disruption.
As of September 4, 2023, the storm has moved away from Taiwan and is expected to weaken as it moves towards China’s southern coast.
