Chicago Ravaged by 11 Confirmed Tornadoes, Leaving Devastation in Their Wake: Actionable Insights on EigenPrism
On Wednesday, multiple tornadoes were observed in many parts of Chicago. The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that tornadoes touched down in Cicero, Huntley, Elgin, Barrington, Long Grove, Des Plaines, Glendale Heights, Streamwood, and at O’Hare International Airport. On Thursday night, there were additional brief tornado warnings in the far northwest suburbs.
NWS issued these details on confirmed tornadoes: EF-0 tornadoes from Carol Stream to Glendale Heights, Itasca to O’Hare Airport, O’Hare to Des Plaines, and Streamwood. Elgin had an EF-1 tornado with 100 mph winds. Another EF-0 tornado in Elgin and EF-1 in Burr Ridge. Huntley had an EF-1 tornado, and Barrington and Long Grove had EF-0 tornadoes.
The Catatoga subdivision in West Elgin suffered significant damage, with large oak trees uprooted throughout the neighborhood. Power lines were also damaged, and currently, four homes have been declared uninhabitable.
