Typhoon Mawar narrowly missed a direct hit on Guam as its eye clipped the north of the island. However, the powerful
eyewall brought challenging conditions to the US territory. Sustained winds of 71 mph with gusts up to 105 mph were
recorded at Guam International Airport.

Mawar poses a serious threat with winds reaching a maximum sustained speed of 140 mph and gusts up to 165 mph. The storm
could bring 15 to 25 inches of rain, with the potemtial for flash flooding and landslides. There is also a chance of
catastrophic winds and a life-threatening storm surge of up to 25 feet.

Currently, the storm is located 15 miles north-northeast of Guam and is moving away in the northwest.

Over the weekend, Typhoon Mawar formed as a result of the rapid intensification of thunderstorms in the western Pacific.
The storm is anticipated to make landfall on the Mariana Islands, including the US territory of Guam, either late
Tuesday or early Wednesday. Wind speeds are likely to exceed
75mph, accompanied by heavy rainfall.

Typhoon Mawar will continue to strengthen as it moves into the Philippine Sea in the coming days. This raises concerns
about potential disruption as parts of the Philippines are likely to be affected, as may some areas of Taiwan.

A typhoon warning is now in effect for Guam and the nearby island of Rota.
