On Sunday, The Great Neck region of Virginia Beach was pounded by a storm that damaged scores of homes and left thousands of people without power. The violent weather brought one confirmed tornado that damaged an estimated 50 to 100 homes in the Fort Story area.
The city manager, Patrick Duhaney, declared a state of emergency and crews were preparing to pick up piles of debris from public streets on Monday morning. This was the second tornado to occur over the weekend, after one that damaged homes and turned over cars in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on Saturday. As of Sunday night, no injuries had been reported, despite the damage to homes.
