Assessing the Impact of Winter Storm: A Blast of Cold Air Moves Towards the Northeast US
Northeast cold weather- The Northeast and New England are anticipated to see a devastating blast of dangerously cold winds on Friday, forcing officials to close schools and activate emergency measures as the area prepares for record-breaking sub-zero temperatures.
Wind chill warnings are in effect for the entirety of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The wind chill hazard also extends to parts of New York state outside of New York City and Long Island, northern New Jersey, northeastern Pennsylvania, and northern New Jersey.
New York City will experience single-digit temperatures, with Saturday morning’s low being 8 degrees. The coldest part of the week is Friday night into Saturday when winds might feel as low as 7 degrees below zero.
Earlier this week, significant freezing rain fell in parts of the Southern US, as a result of the devasting ice storm. This resulted in hazardous road conditions and power outages for more than 400,000 properties across Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
