Flooding in Sacramento, California: Another Storm System to Bring Fresh Flooding
Another storm system is threatening the west coast with a risk of powerful winds and flooding. It is affecting the West Coast right after the previous system brought record-breaking rains in California.
The Central US is being hit by a violent storm that tore across California on New Year’s Eve. The storm was caused by the atmospheric river phenomena, which dumped heavy snow on the Sierrra Neveda Range and flooded Northern California.
The storm caused extensive flooding and forced the closure of several major highways. Sacramento County was amongst the hardest hit. In nearby San Joaquin County, floodwaters led to the closure of State Route 99. The storm also led to landslides, and power disruptions. According to poweroutage.us, the number of power outages in California and Nevada decreased from 300,000 on Saturday to 103,000 on Sunday night.
Severe Storms in the Central US
On Monday afternoon, severe storms with damaging winds, powerful tornadoes, and hail are probable in some areas of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Whereas, southern Rockies, northern plains, and parts of the Midwest could see snow ranging from 4 inches up to 2 feet.
