New York Snow Storm 2022: Snow Eases in Parts of New York

Western New York state is recovering after a historic snowstorm slammed the region over the weekend. On Saturday, Buffalo received around 21.5 inches of snow. This set a daily record for November 19. So far, this has been the second snowiest November in Buffalo’s history – 36.9 inches compared to 45.6 inches in 2000. 

According to the NWS Easter Region, 80 inches of snow fell between Thursday and Sunday afternoons near Orchard Park. This makes it the third-highest three-day total in New York.

Snowfall of around 1 to 3 inches is expected in the Buffalo area through Tuesday.

Winter alerts will remain in effect till Monday. East of Lake Ontario, a narrow band of lingering snow is likely to add 8-15 inches. Wind advisories are in effect for over 2 million people.

As this system gradually decreases, the forecast for the Northeast is for further rain and storms.

Intense snowfall – already battering sections of western New York state – will continue throughout Friday. Predictions are for near-zero visibility, as well as damage to trees and property.

In New York, areas east of Lakes Erie and Ontario could experience snowfall accumulating at over 3 inches per hour. This snowfall will be accompanied by lightning and severe winds.
