Rapidly Spreading Wildfires in Oregon and California Cause Havoc
In Oregon, 18 wildfires were actively burning till Sunday resulting in smoky conditions and poor air quality. The Cedar Creek fire, which was started by lightning on August 1 and has consumed 85,926 acres in extremely difficult-to-access terrains, saw a drop in containment from 12% to 0% over the course of the weekend.
The fire advanced in Lane and Deschutes counties, making wind-driven runs and threatening 2,230 homes and 443 commercial structures.
As of now, 92 wildfires have been burning across the country touching 728,000 acres of mostly wildlands. These fires include the Fairview fire in California which has consumed 28,307 acres and the Moose fire in Idaho which has spread to 126,252 acres and is 47% contained.
Meanwhile, more fires are expected due to dry storms and rising temperatures brought by hurricane Kay.
