Flash Flooding Wreaks Havoc in Northwest Georgia
On Sunday, thunderstorms and severe rain caused flash flooding in a few locations in Northwest Georgia. 10 to 13 inches of rain have already fallen in Floyd and Chattooga counties, and more is forecast.
Extremely high water levels have been caused by rainfall of up to an inch per hour in metropolitan areas, on highways, in creeks, and in streams. Flooded roadways and water-saturated residences are being reported throughout Floyd and Chattooga County.
Due to catastrophic flooding at a nearby filtration plant, residents in the city of Summerville in Chattooga County were urged to boil water before using it for drinking and cooking.
