Tornados, Flooding Rain, and Wind in the US South Likely to Continue Through Monday
A significant weather event brought thunderstorms, damaging winds and flooding rainfall in the new year from Ohio to the US South. On Saturday, the NWS also issued a tornado watch for parts of Tennessee and Kentucky as severe storms came through the state. According to the preliminary reports, 2 confirmed tornados touched down the state – one was located west of Elkton, Tennessee, and the other one in Newton County, Georgia, prompting warnings from the NWS.
On Sunday, strong thunderstorms were seen in parts of the northern Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. The threat of severe thunderstorms and flooding rainfall is likely to continue through this week.
